Breast Cancer Treatment

Treatment of breast cancer is a multidisciplinary process. It requires different medical specialties to work together.

In most patients, surgical treatment is the first step, followed by radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone therapy, one, several or all of which are administered in a certain order depending on the results of postoperative pathologic examination. Surgical treatment and radiotherapy are more important in achieving regional control of the tumor, while chemotherapy and hormone therapy help with systemic control.

When deciding on the treatment to be applied for breast cancer, the patient should be given detailed information about her condition and treatment options should be discussed with the patient.
